1“华生,‘推断’这个词你是怎么解释的?” “推测──推想──推论──推理,都差不多吧。” “亲爱的医生,我想,我们必须把你看作一位文学家和一位逻辑学家。” “福尔摩斯,我看你不必嘲笑我的无知,你倒底想说什么呢?”自从华生把回忆录交给柯南·道尔爵士整理发表后,这两位握笔杆的人都领受了“文学家”的称号,可是一想到福尔摩斯讥讽的口吻,再联想到他对文学的一无所知,华生对这个称号已有一种不舒服的感觉了。华生觉得,“逻辑学家”是福尔摩斯抛给他的又一个刻薄。
