Magnetic recording technology has seen tremendous growth in resolution, bandwidth, and quality. Recording density of 20,000 cycles / hour has been reached in analog recording tape systems and there is still no signal noise available. When digital recording is used on highly reliable computers, only a fraction of the above recording density can be used. Digital recording is increasingly being used in the measurement process, which requires high digital rates and large storage capacity. The frequency of errors when making measurements is significantly greater than the error frequency used by computers.
