The 24K gold-plated glittering Oscars is a longing for many filmmakers, winning only a handful of nominees and many of the unsuccessful stars. Among all the nominated actors in the Academy’s history, Al Pacino counts as the type of tenacious struggler who has suffered setbacks, perseverance, and ultimately wins. He was nominated for best supporting actor for “The Godfather” (1972) and “Dick Tracy” (1990) for six unsuccessful Oscars, and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor (1973), The Fathers of the Godfather ), “Hot Afternoon” (1975), and “Justice for All” (1979) were nominated for Best Actor. Last year, Pacino won two nominations for best actor (Scent of a Woman) and Best Supporting Actor (“Rose of Scotland”) and finally won the Best Actor Award. As a result, he never again had the chance to break the record of the male movie star nominated for the most by Peter O’Toul and Richard Burton. But, as Julie Andrews put it when the hardcore scholar Lee Marvin won in 1965: “When you win, it feels very exciting.”
