“合理情绪疗法”的基本理论主要是ABC理论。这一理论的要点就是不良情绪和不良行为不是由某一诱发事件本身所引起,而是由经历了这一事件的个体对这一事件的解释和评价所引起的。具体来说,A是指诱发事件;B是指个体在遇到了诱发事件之后,对该事件的看法、解释和评价,即相应而生的信念;C是指在特定情景下,个体的情绪及行为结果。这里,B——人们对诱发事件所持的信念,才是引起人的情绪及行为反应的更直接的原因。由于人们的思想观念、职业素养、身心素质等不同,对同一事件的看法、解释和评价即信念就会不同。例如:一个学生在课堂上出现较为严重的违纪行为,
