嵩岳寺塔位于河南登封县城西北6公里的太室山南麓嵩岳寺内,属全国重点文物保护单位,世界文化遗产“天地之中”历史文化建筑群之一。嵩岳寺原名闲居寺,初建于北魏正光四年(公元523年),原是北魏宣武帝的离宫,后改为佛教寺院,正光元年(公元520年)改名闲居寺。隋仁寿二年(公元602年)改名嵩岳寺。唐武则天和高宗游嵩山时,曾把嵩岳寺改作行宫。嵩岳寺塔是中国现存最早的砖塔,也是全国古塔中 Songyue Temple Tower is located in Songyue Temple, south of Mount Tai Room, 6 km northwest of Dengfeng County in Henan Province.
