In October 2001, the Ministry of Education issued the “Standards for Ideological and Political Courses in Junior High Schools for Compulsory Education in Primary and Secondary Schools (Revision)” to make major adjustments to the teaching content and basic requirements of ideological and political education. New textbooks based on the new curriculum standards began to be used around the country in the fall of 2002. The use of new textbooks in the ideological and political class is part of the curriculum reform of basic education in China.
