Preface Nature and Problems of Oral Facial Pain Pain is the most common symptom of diseases and traumas that make people both health and financially severely affected. It is estimated that the United States spent as much as 60 billion U.S. dollars on pain and related health services a few years ago, excluding the economic losses caused by work and production. Facial and oral pain have special emotional, biological, and psychological implications for the patient. Acute pathological pain of teeth and related structures can be said to be the most common pain throughout the body.
