当今的电子书(e-book)市场正处于群雄争霸时期,各公司纷纷推出自己的电子书格式或阅读器,希望占领市场。单从文件格式来说,就有微软的MSReader、Adobe的PDF,以及WDL、CHM、HLP、DOC、HTML、超星等十余种,可以说是五花八门,让人无所适从。而电子书相对于纸书的重要优势——全文检索功能,大多只能在单个文件内使用,要想对某一目录下的全部电子文件进行全文检索,往往要靠第三方软件来实现,而这类软件并非对所有格式都适用。因此,电子书发展呼唤统一标准的到来。
