Since the mid-1980s, due to the massive absorption of direct investment from Japan and the “four small” Asian countries, the ASEAN countries have witnessed spectacular economic growth and become the most economically active region in the Asia-Pacific region. However, in recent years they have begun to face the dilemma of sharply reduced foreign investment.
