This book is a collection of essays published by the Japanese Society of History Studies in Japan as a joint research project that has long had a very active research and publication activity. Here, writers of different styles both at home and abroad describe how the “Shanghai Shanghai”, as set forth by his ancestors, was changed before and after the founding of the People’s Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as the People’s Republic of China).
