Two large open-pit iron ore companies, Hammersley and Newman Hill, in Pilbara, Western Australia, are examining larger trucks to keep up with the demand for high-grade iron ore. Due to the variable proportions of ore and rock, the length and slope of the transportation corridor became steep, and the investigation was complicated by the rigorous operating conditions. Pilbara has a large number of high-grade hematite ore, according to a conservative estimate of 55% ore reserves of 40 billion tons of ore. The total reserves of iron ore allowed to be mined by Hammersley and Newman Hill totaled 14 billion tons and the ferrous grade was 55-68%.
