能否保持共产党员的先进性 ,是马克思主义政党在其存在和发展的各个历史时期都必须面对的一个非常重大的问题。中国共产党对保持其党员先进性的要求是多方面、多层次、多角度的。以中国共产党党章 ,同时兼及与其相关文献对这一问题的若干规定和论述为线索 ,来考察中国共产党对这一问题的认识与实践的历史发展 ,对我们结合新形势、新任务的要求 ,大力加强党的自身建设有着重要意义。
