和凝是五代时期著名词人,也是中国词史上名家之一。五朝元老,长于短歌艳曲。词集名《红叶稿》,是中国词史上第一部个人专集。现存和凝词均为短歌,而非艳曲。其词或写赴京应试前后的冶游生活,或吟咏梅花、春光和渔父生活,更多的是写男女情事:宫怨、相爱、相思等,纯真直率,丰富多彩。词的语言清新优美,爽朗自然。形象生动逼真,每多意态,使人可触可感。风格有清秀处,有富艳处,清新爽朗为其主导风格,和韦庄词风相近。
