金刚石由于它具有独特的、固有的、优良的机械、物理、化学性质,故引起了人们高度的重视。随着世界工业的发展,二十世纪五十年代以来,各国陆续开始了人工制造金刚石,并发展成为一个新型的、完整的、独立的工业体系。它在金刚石壮观的发展史上又增添了新的一页。我国自1964年研制成功人造金刚石以来,到目前为止,有了惊人的发展。当今摆在我们从事人造金刚石生产者和研究者面前的任务,仍然是探求转变机理、设计新的高压装置(特别是高压腔的结构)、改进工艺、提高单产、改善质量、增加品种、降低成本和力求充分利用祖国富有资源途径的。
