Objective To understand the situation of child injury and death in Zhuhai and provide a scientific basis for injury intervention. Methods Data were collected from the system of cause-of-death monitoring within the three administrative regions of Zhuhai City (Xiangzhou District) and rural areas (Doumen District and Jinwan District). The cause of death and mortality of children aged from 1 to 14 in Zhuhai from 2005 to 2009 were analyzed by ICD-10 cause of death. Results During 2005-2009, a total of 78 cases of deaths of children aged from 1 to 14 were reported. The 5-year average mortality rate was 10.24 / lakh and the standardized mortality rate was 10.06 / lakh. The five-year mortality rates were 15.47 / 100,000 (24/155 171), 10.40 / 100,000 (16/153 780), 8.61 / 100,000 (13/151 025) and 8.66 / 100,000 (13/150 183) respectively. , 7.92 / 100,000 (12/151 438). The standardized death rate for males was 10.58 / lakh and the standardized mortality rate for females was 9.43 / lakh. The proportion of total deaths from injury to death for children aged 1-14 was 36.62% (78 / 213). The first five causes of death were drowning, motor vehicle accidents and motor vehicle accidents. They were accidentally poisoned and killed, accounting for 52.56%, 20.51%, 5.13%, 3.85% and 3.85% respectively. In Xiangzhou, Jinwan and Doumen children, the average mortality rates were 5.82 / lakh, 12.25 / lakh and 16.81 / lakh respectively, higher in rural areas than in urban areas (P <0.05). Conclusion Injury and death are the first cause of death among children aged from 1 to 14 in Zhuhai. Safety education should be given to parents to prevent accidents such as drowning and road traffic accidents.
