由中国园艺学会西甜瓜专业委员会主持的全国西甜瓜育种学术研讨会于1991年8月12～16日在新疆乌鲁木齐市召开,11个省(区)市代表49人参加了会议,其中副研究员以上的高级科技人员22人。美国南卡洛里纳州克伦生大学 B.B.Rhodes 教授应邀参加了会议,并作了西瓜遗传与育种进展的专题报告.会议共收到论文29篇,会上共有21名代表分别作了报告,其中有综述性报告6篇,育种专题性报告8篇,生物技术与其他基础性报告7篇。在讨论中,代表们一致认为这次会议无论从收到的论文还是大会交流的报告内容来看,在深度和广度上均反映出我国的西甜瓜育种研究水平比过去有了明显的提高,尤其是在应用现代生物技术和基础性研究方面取得了一定的进展;在这次会上有一定数量的中、青年代表走上讲台并作了一些具有一应水平的学术报告,大家认为这是令人欣喜的现象,
The National Symposium on Western Muskmelon Breeding, hosted by the Chinese Society of Horticultural Society’s West Melon Commission, was held in Urumqi, Xinjiang from August 12 to August 1991.
