刘象乾今年80岁,是太钢耐火厂的退休工人,解放前只上过小学五年级,却在退休后经过数年的艰辛努力,写成《平定古城》一书,1998年由山西人民出版社出版,在平定县旧有州志,今有新编县志的情况下,该书的出版,可谓填补了平定古城没有城志的空白。刘象乾风趣地说:“旧社会我家里穷得没吃没穿,只好来太原当工人。现在靠社会主义的优越性,我领着退休金欢度晚年,想不到靠自己五年级的文化水平还能出了书。”
