Chinese American literature has made remarkable achievements since the 1970s. This article analyzes the three Chinese-American women writers renowned in the American literary world in the 70s, 80s, and 90s: Maxine Hong Kong, Amy Tan and Ren Bilian. From a unique perspective, they focus on the living conditions of ethnic Chinese groups in the collision between the two cultures and their thinking on life choices. From Maxine Kingston to Amy Tan and Ren Bilian, the three female writers have undergone a process of self-confusion to self-identity and self-transcendence in the process of constructing their cultural identities. Their changes indicate that Chinese American literature gradually transcends genres boundaries and tends to be more Big inclusive and open.
