红豆杉隶属红豆杉科红豆杉属,全世界约有11种,我国有4种1变种,云南省有3种1变种,即云南红豆杉、红豆杉、南方红豆杉、西藏红豆杉,主要分布在我国云南省(约有500万株)和周边省份一部分地区,占世界资源的70％。红豆杉为常绿乔木,高可达40米,胸径2米;雌雄异株,雌花球单性叶腋,雄花球球形,有梗,花淡黄色;种子坚硬,圆球形或椭圆形,生于杯状肉质假种皮中,假种皮红色·可食。
