GKD5型机车是大连机车车辆厂新设计制造的产品。该产品是用于朝鲜平壤地铁工程作调车和小运转用的小型调车内燃机车。机车采用交─直流电力机械传动。其动力装置为12V135JZ型柴油机，其走行部分为两台两轴转向架，适应于在曲线多且半径小的厂矿、海港、站段使用。
GKD5 locomotive is a newly designed and manufactured product of Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works. This product is a small shunting diesel locomotive used for shunting and small-scale operation of the Pyongyang metro project in North Korea. Locomotive using AC power ─ ─ DC mechanical transmission. Its power unit is 12V135JZ diesel engine, and its running part is two two-axle bogies, which are suitable for use in factories and mines, seaports and stations with many curves and small radii.
