Data from 1 to 6 mHz of the International Accelerometer (IDA) station were processed to confirm the presence of low-frequency pre-seismic shocks in the 1960 Chilean earthquake to determine the seismic moment and centroid time of the recent 22 major and major earthquakes. These 22 earthquakes included the 1989 Marquoll Ridge Earthquake, which was reportedly pre-damped at low frequency (Imhlé et al., 1993). In the frequency band of 1 ~ 6mHz, no obvious precursory shock evidence of these earthquakes was found. The results show that the seismic moment of a large unilateral rupture with a given fault type is approximately proportional to the square of the duration. This relationship fits well with these data.
