今年的“五·一”节,对西安市的广大少年儿童来说, 是一个值得纪念的日子,因为在西大街省图书馆老馆址内,建起了属于这些小读者的大书房——陕西省图书馆少儿分馆,并举行了试开馆揭牌仪式。少儿分馆目前的馆舍面积近1400平方米,设有阅览坐席近200个,入藏少儿图书4800种14805册,报纸33 种,期刊193种,少儿电子图书1700多种3400多册,音像资料218种540张,是陕西省目前规模最大的少儿图书馆。少儿分馆的建成开馆,不仅为广大少年儿童提供了课外阅读学习的良好场所,同时也必将成为加强和改进未成年人思想道德建设的重要阵地和第二课堂。少儿分馆是一所开放式、公益性、现代化的图书馆, 图书借阅与书目检索全部实行计算机管理,目前开设有儿童借阅室和少年借阅室,完全实行大开架的人性化无证阅览服务,凡16周岁以下的未成年人都可免费无证入馆阅览,学龄前儿童还可由家长陪同阅读。借书时才需办理借书证,3-9岁儿童可由家长代办借还图书。在少儿借阅室,有专为低幼儿童设立的亲子活动区, 在配备了大量低幼读物的同时,还配备了适合各年龄段儿
