自20世纪90年代下半期起,中国远程教育进入了战略革新和起飞期。教育部决定利用国家信息网络技术发展迅速和信息基础设施建设加快的大好形势,在原来指定的试点院校的基础上,扩大规模,45所重点普通高校建立网络教育学院,实现现代远程教育的高起点、跨越式发展。网络教育的发展,必然使图书馆面临更严峻的挑战——信息资源的开发利用。
