伊盟一九七八年在毛乌素沙地的伊金霍洛旗台格庙公社台格庙大队境内进行了飞播治沙试验。播区南北长4000米,东西宽1700米,总面积10200亩。境内以流动沙地为主,占播区总面积的66.5％。经过几年的封禁,除高大沙丘外,一般沙丘的顶部,迎风坡角以及东西两侧,生长有沙米,还有一些平缓沙地形成沙米群落,据统计,沙米占流沙面积的30.1％。
