A major goal of seismic exploration is to obtain detailed lithologic data, such as the extraction of reflectivity, acoustic impedance or layer velocities from reflections. Noise and band-limited signals often make this purpose difficult to achieve. Despite the noise and bandwidth constraints, the interpreter must undertake and define a detailed geological interpretation. The explanation should be consistent with all the information, such as geological, drilling and seismic data. When the composite record obtained from the initial model does not match the expected seismic data, a typical calibration procedure is needed to change the model parameters to match.
