Magnesium is an important cation in the body, its content in the second place in the intracellular fluid. In bone tissue 71% of magnesium and calcium, phosphorus in the form of double salt to combine some of the medical disease, mental illness. Neurological disorders can be seen in magnesium disorders. Antiepileptic drugs can cause hypomagnesemia. In a study of 223 epileptic patients who were treated with antiepileptic drugs for a long time, Christiansen et al found that plasma magnesium levels were significantly lower than those of the normal control group. However, Katz and other 100 patients with antiepileptic treatment of epilepsy patients, serum magnesium levels found no significant difference compared with the matched control group. Therefore, in recent years the literature on the relationship between antiepileptic treatment of epilepsy and serum magnesium levels have not yet been conclusive. The authors studied a group of patients with epilepsy who had long-term antiepileptic treatment for mental retardation.
