Associated Press, Boston, May 1, 1980 Researchers say that even modest exercise can significantly help blood damage dangerous clots, a finding that explains why people who exercise regularly have heart disease Less and less suffer from stroke. Doctors have recently noticed that people who walk slower or exercise more often have a healthier heart than the general population, but they do not know what’s going on in the body to protect that vital organ. A recent study by Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina found that when people are in good health, they release large amounts of protein that attack blood to form clots. R. Sanders Wil-liams, who led the study, said more research is needed before his doctrine can convince scientists. He said his group may find an “important mechanism” for reducing heart disease. The study, published today in the New England Journal of Medicine, examined 69 healthy adults who did not exercise regularly
