1 戏剧源自原始歌舞、哑剧一类的艺术。这些原始艺术是先民对于自身和外部世界的摹仿。这种摹仿是形象的、情感的,充满了想象。它表达了先民对于生命存在的种种体验,并给先民带来愉悦。因而,戏剧的本质是当众表演的对生命体验想象地摹仿,戏剧的功能是娱乐。 2 中国的传统戏剧是自由的,写意的。它的线性结构,散点透视,虚拟表演,都体现了这一点。这种自由和写意源自中国艺术的传统精神:由实而虚,由虚而静,由静而明,由明而远。西方的传统戏剧偏重严整、写实。如故事的三一律。表演的体验和再现。这些也源自西方艺术的传统精神:崇尚理性,穷究根由,以真为美。两种传统各有短长,我更喜欢中国的自由和写意。
