Hand infections are a serious problem despite the development of surgery and the emergence of new antibiotics because of their high incidence and possible disability. Often, the proper treatment is delayed because the potential severity of contaminating hand injuries is not recognized. Delays and improper handling can cause up to 50% of complications. On the choice of treatment of hand infections with antibiotics, the current literature emphasizes the use of penicillin-resistant penicillins or cephalosporins. However, there are comparatively few trials comparing the efficacy of these two drugs in treating hand infections and their relationship to bacteriology. For a more rational treatment of hand-infected antibiotics, the authors conducted a prospective, randomized, randomized study at the Harborview Medical Center
