April 12, 1990. Japan’s Economic Planning Agency announced the 1988 per capita income of all counties. According to calculation, the per capita income of all counties in the country was 2,522,000 yen, an increase of 7.2% over the previous year. Second only to the highest growth in the large economy in 1980 (up 7.7% over the previous year), maintaining a sustained high growth in eight years, the highest per capita income in each prefectural capital is Tokyo, 374.3 million yen Compared with 1.743 million yen in Okinawa, a difference of 2.15 times (2.0 times in the previous fiscal year), which proves more clearly the drawbacks of Japan’s extremely concentrated economic development.
