Among the many art genres, printmaking and calligraphy have the same artistic foundation and similar artistic genes: practicality and philosophicality. Calligraphy is written in words, written language is a written language, people exchange ideas, the dissemination of information as a tool, so there is a wide range of use, this wide range of usability, in fact, is the practicality of calligraphy itself. Although the print is the object of description with specific objects, its original appearance is for illustrations of books and folk posters. Therefore, its purpose of creation is to a considerable extent also serving practicality. With the development of art itself and the progress of human society, the practical aspects of printmaking and calligraphy are constantly shrinking, while those belonging to artistry are rapidly publicized. They expand and construct their own art forms in their own artistic language. However, the same artistic genes still exist. The contrast between black and white in monochrome woodcuts and the black and white in calligraphic lines still show the original philosophy of yin-yang and obscureness. “To learn day by day, it is dawn.” The simplest form may be the highest realm of art, so the simple, simple and bright artwork may be the essence of art. It is precisely because of the above thinking, I had the following impression on the work of Wei Xiaoming.
