The hostile market is the ultimate test of management capabilities. The hostile market is like an economic scorched-earth battle. It requires competitors to have the bravery of fighters and the tenacity of marathon runners. In hostile markets, many companies compete for the same customers. The returns are low, and sometimes even poor. The industry’s production capacity is seriously over-proportioned, either because of the booming demand or because of excessive competition. No one’s status or customer relationship is safe. In the eyes of laymen, and even some insiders, the price is unreasonable and self-destructive.
