With the widespread use of dynamic glucose monitoring system (CGMS), people are noticing that fluctuating hyperglycemia is more likely to promote the development and progression of diabetic microangiopathy than persistent hyperglycemia. Calcitonin gene-related peptide is currently the most vasodilator polypeptide known to play an important role in diabetic microangiopathy. We believe that the correct understanding of the hazards of blood glucose fluctuations and calcitonin gene-related peptide on the mechanism of diabetic microvascular disease in-depth study can provide the basis for the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes mellitus (DM) and means to improve the prognosis of patients.
