泡桐是我省主要速生落叶阔叶树种之一。生长极为迅速,我院栽植的4年生福穹氏泡桐胸径28.2厘米,树高11.5米,树干材积0.257米~3,年平均生长量胸径为7.05厘米,树高2.88米;7年生泡桐胸径36.9厘米,树高15.6米,树干材积0.706米~3,年平均生长量胸径为5.27厘米,树高2.23米。木材质量高,用途广,价值高,具有防潮耐腐、不翘不裂、轻软隔热、导音性强、花纹美观、易于加工等特性,我省群众素来用于制做箱柜、棺木、风箱、锅盖、抬杠、乐器等;又是传统的出口物资。适应性强,对土壤要求不严,耐旱,胁地少,是理想的“四旁”绿化和农桐兼作树种。加之繁殖容易,深受广大群众欢迎,同时也引起了各级领导的重视,因而推广和发展很快。
