The second human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-2) eventually appeared as expected in the UK. Scientists from the Middlesex Hospital in London found this virus, which is significantly different from HIV-1, in blood samples from anonymous homosexuals seeking treatment at a sexually transmitted disease clinic and justified a different name. The discovery of the virus coincides with a study that began this month on HIV-2 transmission among outpatients in seven hospitals in London. Richard Ted-der, a virologist at Middlesex Hospital, said there are 10,000 test kits in seven centers to determine the presence of anti-HIV-2 antibodies in the blood of patients. To the center
