差不多一个世纪以来,一座一座的摩天楼在美国各大城市拔地而起,而且一个比一个高。然而自从七十年代初,全世界最高的西尔斯大厦在芝加哥建成后,高楼热在美国趋于冷却,但却转到了地球另一边,环太平洋地区的新兴国家。马来西亚的吉隆坡和中国的上海都在修建“世界之最”。本文作者Paul Goldberger指出,这些大楼虽然辉煌壮丽,却不代表所在城市的特色,但是终将成为这座城市的标志。
