Nearly ten years of experience have shown that the monitoring of antiepileptic drug (AED) blood concentrations can be of great help in the treatment of patients with epilepsy. However, the awareness of monitoring AEDs for free plasma concentrations is much less clear than the total concentration (free concentration + protein-binding concentration).
