Clindamycin hydrochloride has broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. It has no absorption in the UV region and therefore is not suitable for UV spectrophotometry. Several methods of assaying clindamycin have been reported, ie, mass spectrometry, radioimmunoassay, gas chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography. The need to derive or select a detector for a compound and multistage extraction steps is cumbersome and time-consuming.
