James Joyce (1882 ~ 1941) is a world-class master of modernist literature. Born in Dublin, Ireland, he was educated in a Catholic church school, but later abandoned his religion. Joyce entered the University of Dublin in 1898 to study philosophy and linguistics, after graduating from a short transfer to medicine. Joyce began his short story collection “Dubliners” in 1904, a collection of stories published ten years later. In 1916, Joyce completed the semi-autobiographical novel “Portrait of a Young Artist”.
