The building materials industry is an important raw material industry for the national economy. It includes three major categories of building materials, non-metallic minerals and their products, and inorganic non-metallic new materials, with more than 1,400 varieties. Since the reform and opening up, the province’s building materials industry has made great progress and the output of major products has increased significantly. In 1993, the province’s cement output was 2,733 tons, ranking third in the country, and doubled on the basis of 1985. 4.8 million weight boxes of flat glass, an increase of 28%. Glass fiber, glass steel products and building materials machinery, output ranks first in the country. New types of building materials such as decoration, thermal insulation, waterproof seals, and new wall materials have developed rapidly.
