我市的地名工作,从一九八○年十二月起,至今已有两年半的历史,历经了地名普查、地名标准化处理、编报四项成果、建立地名档案和编纂图、录、典、志等几个阶段。地名档案工作是地名事业发展过程中遇到的一个新课题,这是一项政治性、科学性、技术性很强的工作,搞好这项建设确实是一项艰巨的任务。我市地名文书材料的建档工作,从八二年二月开始,到四月初完成,共用了两个月时间。对这个新课题、我们是有一个认识过程的。起初,只觉得普查告一段落,需要及时地把零散的文件材料集中地保管起来,便于今后利用,认识只限于一般业务角度。随着实践的发展,特别是中国地名委员会办公
