Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a rare genetic blistering disease, which is characterised by skin and mucosal fragility occurring following minor trauma.It is caused by mutations in the genes encoding proteins which attach the epidermis to the dermis in the basement membrane zone.EB is divided into 3 main types according to the layer of blistering in the BMZ; simplex when the blistering is in the basal layer; junctional EB when it is in the lamina lucida of the BMZ and dystrophic EB when it is below the lamina densa.
