Accumulating evidence shows that exposure to general anesthetics can cause widespread neural defects and behavioral abnormalities in neonate animals. However, previous studies mainly focus on neurons, the effect of anesthetics on oligodendrocytes in developing brains remains poorly understood. Our study is to examine whether the treatment of midazolam, which is widely used in pediatric anesthesia and intensive care medicine for sustaining sedation, affects oligodendrocyte development and myelination in developing zebrafish.
