Microstructure of Directionally Solidified Al2O3/GdAlO3/ZrO2 Eutectic in situ Composite

  Al2O3-based ceramics were of interest in recent years because of high thermal stability and corrosion resistance.In this study,directionally solidified rods of Al2O3/GdAlO3(GAP)/ZrO2 ternary eutectic in situ composites were produced by the laser-heated floating zone method.The as-solidified eutectics with high density(≥98%)presented glossy surfaces,no pores and grain boundaries in their microstructure.
