Surface-initiated/mediated radical polymerization reactions represent a powerful tool to generate functional polymer surface coatings.Using any of the nowadays well-established "controlled" radical polymerization reactions allows to prepare ultrathin,surface-anchored polymer films ("polymer brushes") with precise control over the layer thickness,as well as the architecture,composition and functionality of the surface-attached polymer chains.
