Heading date (HD) is a critical trait for adaptation to different cultivation areas and cropping season and it is one of the leading objectives in rice breeding.Eleven QTLs for heading date were detected on chromosomes 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 in the past studied by using recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from a cross between Xieqingzao B (XB), a maintainer line with early heading, and R9308, a restore line with late heading.Only qHD-7-1 was detected in four years, and it was mapped in interval RM5436-RM214 on chromosome 7, and it could explain phenotypic variance was 10.61% in 2006, 3.91% in 2007, 16.02% in 2010 and 18.75% in 2011.The result showed qHD-7-1 could express stably in paddy fields. To identify and fine mapping the QTL, then it was backcrossed to BC3F3 generation for measuring the days-to-heading.The qHD-7-1 was backcrossed to a near isogenic line (NIL) with a marker assisted selection (MAS) strategy for fine mapping. The qHD-7-1 was finally narrowed to a 418 kb interval (Indel 23-Indel 42).
