We have developed a handheld,smartphone-sized device for real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) system for infectious disease diagnostics.The key component is the miniaturized fluorescence monitoring system originally inspired by DVD pick up head capable of measuring 4 spots a time using built-in lock-in amplifier.It contains an ultra bright blue LED with principal emission wavelength of 470 nm,low pass filter to remove green compound of the emitted light,dichroic mirror to redirect blue light,and focusing lens to interrogate the sample placed on a microscope glass cover slip.
