The non-surgical closure of secundum atrial septal defects (ASDs) with a device delivered transvenously using a special catheter is a safe and highly effective procedure if the patients are carefully selected.The defect must be located in the middle of the atrial septum, should not have an echo diameter more than 3 5mm, and should not accompany by partial anomalous pulnonary venous return.
