We are confronted with many different problems in our contemporary world: For example the financial crisis, shortages of energy and food supplies as well as climate change caused by global warming.Climate change with an increase of extreme weather events is directly affecting agricultural production.Global warming is a scientific truth: In the last 100 years, the global temperature rose by 0.7 degrees centigrade.It has been proved that climate change results in an increase in extreme weather conditions such as drought, flooding and storms connected with hail storms.According to a study carried out by the Munich Reinsurance Company, the number of natural disasters has globally tripled since 1960.Related to this, economic damage has multiplied by eight and damages covered by insurances have increased by a factor of 26.Weather risk management in the agricultural sector is in this time economically essential because up to 80 percent of all agricultural output depends on the weather.
