In this paper,we proposed an alternative way to produce biodiesel from palm oils.Different Ni2P/SiO2 catalysts were synthesized using the thermal decomposition of metal hypophosphite precursors.The catalytic properties of Ni2P/SiO2 catalysts for hydrodeoxygenation(HDO)of methyl palmitate were first investigated in a fixed-bed microreactor.The resulting catalysts were characterized using XRD,TEM,SEM,EDS,BET,NH3-TPD,and H2-TPR.The result indicates that Ni2P/SiO2 showed significantly higher activity than a Ni/SiO2 catalyst.Finally,using the analytical results from GC–MS,we propose a possible HDO reaction mechanism for HDO of methyl palmitate on Ni2P/SiO2 catalysts.
